Activities and Attractions
What to See and Do Close By

*Woods and Trails: Horseshoe Lake Park is a pleasant 10-minute walk
or a 2-minute drive. The park offers over 200 acres of oak hammock
and pine woods with trails around a spring-fed lake where you can
swim, fish, and canoe. We border the Ocala National Forest, so for a
little more excitement, bring your ATV or dirt bike and enjoy miles
of trails. We're only ten miles from the new ATV trailhead.

*Canoeing and Kayaking: The Ocklawaha River, Juniper Springs Run, and
Alexander Springs Run make great day trips. Overnight camping trips
on the Withlacoochee and Suwanee are also popular. Swimming and
snorkeling are especially popular at Silver Glen Springs, where you
can also canoe, hike, and picnic.

*Fishing: Orange Springs is home to the nationally-famous bass
fishing waters of Rodman Lake Reservoir—we’re just 10 minutes from
the Rodman boat ramp. A 30-minute drive or less will take you to
numerous other good fishing spots. Cedar Key, on the west
coast, is famous for redfish and makes a good day trip.

*Ocean Beaches: The east coast beaches closest to us are Flager,
Crescent, St. Augustine, Ormond, Daytona, and Cape Canaveral National Seashore. A
great day trip is Cumberland Island, accessible by ferry. You can see
the ruins of the Carnegie mansion, walk a nearly-deserted beach, and
see the island’s famous wild horses.

*Biking and Walking: Whether you’re on foot or on a bike, you’ll
enjoy the Gainesville-Hawthorne Rails-to-Trails through Payne’s
Prairie State Preserve and the Lochloosa Wildlife Management Area.
Marion County’s nearby Greenway also offers trails for biking and
hiking. And don't forget the Florida Scenic National Trail.

Bigger Attractions
*Countless Theme Parks in Orlando and Tampa, 2 hours away.
*St. Augustine, the oldest city in America, with over 60 themed
attractions, about an hour's drive.
*Silver Springs, with its famous glass-bottom boats, museum,
environmental education center, Wild Waters water park, and
concert series is just 25 minutes away.

Springs Concert Series, huge new library with many programs; natural history museum at Silver River
State Park. Several movie theatre complexes.

*Fall season calendar is filled with arts and crafts festivals all

and you're in Ocala, where you’ll find the usual chain restaurants, malls and stores along with a
very special kind of small-town friendliness that we're all real proud of!
*Palatka, 25 minutes northeast, is a smaller version of Ocala, and is a slower-paced option many
people enjoy. There are a Super Wal-Mart, Publix and Winn-Dixie supermarkets, various restaurants
and banks.

*Flea markets and antique stores abound. The historic town of Micanopy is about 25 minutes away--a
great place for antique shopping and lunch.

Churches: The First Baptist Church of Orange Springs and the non-denominational Community Church (a
lovely building over 150 years old) are a few miles away. Within 14 miles there are Methodist,
Catholic, Episcopalian, LDS and other churches. There are many other places of worship in the area.
