zoning out chain stores.  So come explore a piece of America before 
strip malls and chain stores. Sanibel has maintained old Floridian 
charm.  It has miles of sandy white beaches for shelling, 
swimming,snorkeling or fishing and over 30 miles of 
bike paths leading you through nature preserves, and to delightful 
boutiques, galleries and restaurants.  Bike the island, kayak or 
canoe the mangroves in the Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge or 
fish the waters from its shores. Island water fowl is replete, with 
pelicans, herons, terns, egrets, ibises,  and spoonbills.  In the 
preserves  see alligators, otters, turtles and in the Gulf waters 
manatees and dolphins.  Visit the  Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum, 
play golf, or cruise the waters to adjacent charming island keys by 
boat from Captiva Cruises.  Off island, visit  the Ford-Edison 
museums in Fort Myers, browse nearby factory outlets,  discover 
Naples or go to a winter training game for the Boston Red Sox or 
Minnesota Twins.  And if the kids or grandchildren really want to go
