Apalachicola Vacation Rentals, Homes, Condos, Villas and Beach Rentals
Apalachicola
is located on Florida’s northwestern “Forgotten Coast,” near St. Vincent Sound and the Gulf of Mexico. The quiet little town of Apalachicola makes a fun day trip from Panama City or Tallahassee, or is a fascinating destination in its own right. Apalachicola sits on a lagoon-like bay that is protected by a chain of offshore barrier islands. The long, gorgeous white sand beaches here have been rated among the nation’s best. The bay and estuaries are great for fishing and boating, and the area is rich in wildlife preserves. You can take a narrated nature trip to the barrier islands by canoe or kayak, or go on a shelling excursion, some designed especially for children. St. George Island State Park is about 15 miles east of Apalachicola. Here, a four-mile long paved road leads through the park’s dunes to picnic areas, rest rooms, a boat launch and campgrounds. Other points of interest in town include The John Gorrie Museum State Park, which was named for one of the town’s renowned residents, Dr. John Gorrie, the inventor of man-made ice, refrigeration and air-conditioning. It’s also fun to stroll Apalachicola’s waterfront business district and see the beautiful Victorian-era buildings, art galleries and gift shops. For mouth-watering seafood, the restaurants in the Apalachicola region are one of the best reasons to visit this charming town.

Apalachicola Weather & Climate
Florida's Northwest Panhandle between Tallahassee and Panama City is somewhat cooler than the rest of the state due to its latitude and proximity to the Gulf of Mexico. There are a significant number of days November - March when the combination of sea breezes and prevailing winds from the north force cold air into the area. The Panhandle also receives the most rain of any region in the state. In summertime, abundant sunshine and the Gulf, along with 58 inches of rainfall per year, contributes to a hot and humid climate. The chance of showers and thunderstorms can be expected anytime of the year, although the rainy season generally runs May - September, with August and September being the wettest months. Hurricane season officially lasts from August through late October, but ample warning is given for these types of storms.
