Astor is located in Lake County, Central Florida, along the St. John’s River. This lovely little community is nestled among the trees of the Ocala National Forest and has earned the nickname, “The Jewel of the St. John’s River.” Lake County’s gently rolling hills and the fresh country air add to the sense of calm and peacefulness in Astor. Most of the businesses in town are family owned and operated, and people are friendly and relaxed. This is definitely a town with a slow pace where reading a good book on your porch or napping is a great way to pass the time. However, if you’re looking for more action, just a few miles north of Astor you’ll find Lake George, the second largest fresh water lake in Florida. Lake Dexter and Lake Woodruff are just south of town and have some of the best bass fishing in the country. Swimming, picnicking, hiking, biking, and horseback riding are all available in Astor, and hiking and educational environmental tours are offered at Lake Country’s Trout Lake Nature Center. Daytona Beach is approximately a 40-minute drive from Astor, and Disney World is an hour away. Astor is also home to Biketoberfest in the fall.

Astor Weather & Climate

Central Florida, situated at the approximate geographic center of the state, enjoys year round warm weather. Although it rains nearly every day in the summertime, it rarely interferes with outdoor plans because thunderstorms tend to pass quickly, with the sunshine returning soon afterwards. Expect hot and humid conditions throughout the summer months. Virtually every structure in central Florida is air conditioned, which always provides relief, as does swimming in the nearby "Chain of Lakes" region.
