DeFuniak Springs
is a charming Southern town located in the Northwest Panhandle of Florida near the Alabama State line. This small city of approximately 7,000 is home to one of the only two perfectly round spring fed lakes in the world. The other one is located near Zurich, Switzerland. Many speculate that a meteor may have formed the lake eons ago. However it came to be, it’s a beautiful spot to get out and walk along the tree-lined 1.3-mile trail that circles the lake. Dozens of beautifully renovated Victorian homes surround the lake, making you feel as if you’ve stepped back in time. The homes are part of the DeFuniak Springs Walking Tour of Historic Homes. DeFuniak Springs is also home to the oldest library in the state of Florida, established in 1886. Every year on the last Saturday in April, the town is host to the Chautauqua Festival, a lively event with community plays, canoe races, fireworks and more. Fifteen miles north of the town is the highest point in Florida at Lakewood. DeFuniak Springs is conveniently located along I-10 and is just a short drive to the white sand Gulf beaches and the towns of Destin, Seaside and Pensacola.

DeFuniak Springs Weather & Climate
Northwest Florida near the Alabama State line, is only 35 minutes from the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico; therefore the climate is greatly affected by the Gulf. Tropical winds from the south, southeast and southwest create hot, humid conditions in this region and this produces lots of showers and thunderstorms in the summertime. It rains nearly every day during the wet summer season, however you can also expect some sunshine on most days. Late fall and winter is a lovely time of year in the northwest Panhandle region. Expect mild daytime temperatures and less humidity, along with cool nights. It rains much less in winter, and storms are generally localized and short, and the sun reappears quickly.
