Florida City
is the southernmost city in the United States, not located on an island. It is in Miami-Dade County, just west of the city of Homestead. Florida City is at the eastern end of the only road that runs through the Everglades National Park and it is also the last stop on the mainland north of the Florida Keys. Originally named Detroit, Florida City has a small historic area and many hotels and tourist services. In 2004, the population of Florida City was 8,363, which means it offers both small town charm and big city amenities. The incredible Everglades lie to the west, pristine Biscayne National Park is to the east and the Florida Keys are to the south. All of the excitement and glamour of Miami is just north of Florida City. Biscayne Bay National Park offers scuba diving, snorkeling, fishing, boating, glass bottom boat rides and much more. Located within the park are the longest stretch of mangrove trees on the east coast of Florida and a spectacular living coral reef. Peaceful lagoons, sandy beaches, rare wildlife, year round warm weather – its all here in Florida City. Other nearby attractions include the Homestead Sports Complex and the Homestead/Miami Speedway. Tropical south Florida attracts millions of visitors each year and Florida City makes a tranquil, uncrowded place from which to experience it all.

Florida City Weather & Climate
The Florida Keys including Key Largo, Islamorada and Tavernier, enjoy some of the best weather in the world - even in summertime. The hottest day on record was 97 degrees, but those kinds of temperatures are few and far between. There is no urban sprawl to radiate the sun's heat - just lush, natural vegetation, plus the islands are surrounded by cooling ocean waters. Thunderstorms are possible late May through October, but they rarely stick around all day to ruin outdoor plans. In fact, the Keys receive the least rain of anyplace in the state. Winter is delightful and rain is minimal during these months. You will never see a cold front in the Florida Keys in winter - just warm days and mild evenings. The hurricane season peaks in mid-September and officially runs through November, but direct hits are rare for the Keys.
