Homosassa Springs is located north of Tampa near Crystal Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. The town is home to the Homosassa Springs State Wildlife Park, which offers visitors a chance to observe native plants, birds and animals. The main attraction at the park is the “Spring of 10,000 Fish,” a clear spring with many species of fish. The fish can easily be seen through a floating glass observatory, known as the “Fish Bowl.” Paths in the park lead you past alligator, exotic bird shows and other wildlife. The Wildlife Park also serves as a rehabilitation center and refuge for endangered West Indian Manatees that have been orphaned or injured in the wild. There are a variety of recreational activities in the Homosassa Springs area, including fishing, boating, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, biking, golf and tennis. There is a hotel adjacent to the Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park, as well as cottages along the banks of the Homosassa River, villas, inns and other vacation homes and rentals. Homosassa Springs is just a short drive to the Gulf Coast beaches, and one hour to Walt Disney World and other Orlando attractions.
