Howey In The Hills is a small town located in Central Floridas Lake County. As of the 2000 census, the population was 956 residents. Howey-in-the-Hills is surrounded by beautiful rolling hills, orange groves and majestic oaks and pines. Attractions abound in the area, including more than 1,000 lakes and rivers, numerous parks and recreational facilities and golf courses. The Harris Chain of Lakes is a short drive from Howey-in-the-Hills and provides many opportunities for swimming, fishing, boating, hiking and camping. The nearby town of Mount Dora offers a charming downtown with art galleries, antique shops and several great restaurants. Horse-drawn carriages and a 1920s era railroad car take you on scenic rides around the Mount Dora area. The town of Leesburg hosts an Arts Festival and Mardi Gras Festival and Parade each spring and a must see is the 4th of July Fireworks over nearby Lake Harris.
