Laguna Beach
is a small, unincorporated beach town located north of Panama City along the Gulf Coast in the Panhandle Region of Florida. This is a “1940s beachfront community” with no traffic lights and no fast food restaurants. What it does have is seaside atmosphere – the sound of the waves, the gentle Gulf breezes, charming small homes and families who have been coming to Laguna Beach for decades. Activities in or near Laguna Beach include swimming, sunning and shelling, wildlife viewing, snorkeling and diving, sailing, boating and fishing, windsurfing, hiking, biking and golf. This is just a partial list – almost any type of outdoor sport imaginable can be found in the area. Nearby Panama City Beach has over 16 miles of soft, white sand and has more of a coastal resort feeling to it than does Laguna Beach – especially during college spring break. There are also three state parks in the area that are ranked among the country’s top 20 beaches. St. Andrews State Park includes sand dunes, nature trails, and pier fishing and camping. Ferries are also available for trips to Shell Island, a barrier island that offers some of the best shelling north of Sanibel Island. For family fun with all of the amenities, but in a place with an “old Florida,” small town flair, you may want to consider Laguna Beach for your next Florida vacation.
The Emerald Coast of Northwest Florida's Panhandle region enjoys warm temperatures all year long, although it is slightly cooler in the wintertime than southern Florida, due to its latitude and prevailing northerly winds. The Panhandle region also receives the most rainfall in the state - more than 50 inches annually. However, most of these storms, especially in the summertime, pass quickly and sunshine quickly returns. Hot and humid conditions can be expected throughout most of the summer months, May through September, although the area does receive lovely tropical breezes off the Gulf. Hurricane season generally runs late August through October, but direct hits along the Gulf Coast are not frequent.
