Lake Weir is located in Marion County near the Oklawaha River and the Ocala National Forest, and near the towns of Ocala and Gainesville. This is a peaceful area of central Florida, with rolling green hills and horse farms, historic districts and small cities lined with 100-year-old trees and crystal clear rivers. Lake Weir is a beautiful lake, surrounded by orange groves and some of the oldest trees in the state, known for its excellent fishing. There are also several championship golf courses in the area, and other recreational activities include hiking, horseback riding, picnicking, camping and canoeing in the Ocala National Forest. Ocala is horse country and the white horse farms and rolling hills makes it look more like Kentucky than Florida. Just a few miles from Lake Weir is the Silver Springs Wild Waters area, a water park with a wave pool, waterslides, picnic facilities, miniature golf and a children’s play area. There is also the Silver Springs Nature Area, home to the world’s largest formation of clear artesian springs. Glass bottom boat rides are available at the park, along with live animal shows and jeep safaris. Lake Weir makes a great family vacation spot if you’re looking for a place to experience the good weather and outdoor recreation of Florida, but want to avoid the crowds and hassles of some of the other more well-known resort areas.

Lake Weir Weather & Climate

The lush, green horse country of north central Florida, near Ocala and Lady Lake, lies between Gainesville and Orlando. It is warm and humid in the summertime with plenty of sunshine along with frequent thunderstorms that generally pass very quickly. Winters are warm, dry days with cool nights - perfect for a round of golf, horseback riding and other outdoor sports. Northern Florida receives an average of 50 inches of rainfall per year, with most of it during the months of May through September. There is much less rain overall in the wintertime, although continental low-pressure systems can bring longer periods of cloudiness to the area. North winds in the winter keep this area slightly cooler than southern Florida, but summers are slightly warmer without the cooling effect from the ocean, as do cities that are located right along the coast.
