Mayo Vacation Rentals, Homes, Condos, Villas and Beach Rentals

Mayo s a small town located in Lafayette County in Northwest Florida. The population is approximately 1,000 residents. Located on the banks of the Suwannee River, Mayo is the place to go if you are seeking lazy days filled with relaxation and quiet solitude. Lafayette is one of the states smallest counties – in both size and population. Much of the southern and western portions of the county are wetlands. The town of Mayo is the only incorporated place in Lafayette County. However, this doesnt mean you wont find things to do to keep you busy. Fishing, boating, kayaking and swimming are all available on the Suwannee River, which is designated a wild, blackwater river and is 266 miles long. A major attraction of the river is the Suwannee River Wilderness Trail, which encompasses 170 river miles from Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park to the Gulf of Mexico. Lafayette County is also home to Lafayette Blue Springs State Park, seven miles northwest of Mayo off U.S. 27. This park offers picnicking, swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, boating and hiking. Other nearby attractions include Troy Springs State Park, the site of one of the states 33 first magnitude springs, and Peacock Springs State Park, with its 288 acres of springs, sinkholes, swimming, snorkeling and picnicking.

Mayo Weather & Climate

The Panhandle Region near Hagen's Cove on the Gulf of Mexico is somewhat cooler, even in summertime, than the rest of the state due to its latitude and the combination of sea breezes and prevailing northeasterly winds. However, the summer months are still hot and humid with lots of showers and thunderstorms. The Panhandle receives the most rain in the state, nearly 60 inches per year. July through September are the wettest months. Winters are mild enough for most outdoor activities with cool nights. Occasionally the mercury dips low enough for a light frost, but that's rare. Hurricane season officially lasts from August through late October, but ample warning is given for these types of storms.
