Milton
is the county seat of Santa Rosa County, located just northeast of Pensacola in the western Panhandle region of Florida. The city of Milton is one of the oldest cities in Florida, incorporated in 1844. Today, it is a popular vacation spot, due to its close proximity to Pensacola Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, as well as the Blackwater River. Boating and other water sports are very popular on the Blackwater River – so much so, that in 1980 the Florida Legislature declared Santa Rosa County as the “Canoe Capital of Florida.” The Blackwater Heritage Trail, which follows the old Florida-Alabama Railroad, provides hiking, biking and jogging opportunities. Milton’s picturesque Riverwalk Park is the site of several special events throughout the year, including the annual Riverfest Fourth of July Celebration and the Blackwater Festival. In November of each year, the Santa Rosa Historical Society sponsors the “Depot Day Celebration,” held at the old Milton L & N Depot. As part of the “Emerald Coast” of Florida, Milton has much to offer visitors – beautiful beaches, award winning golf courses, excellent boating and fishing, shopping and restaurants. Some of the best restaurants in the state are located on the Emerald Coast, offering everything from fresh seafood and pasta to ethnic food. Milton is just minutes to other interesting Gulf Coast towns such as Navarre, Gulf Breeze, Fort Walton and Destin.

Milton Weather & Climate
Northwest Florida just east of the Alabama State line near the Gulf Islands National Seashore, has a semi-tropical climate with hot, humid summers and warm winters. More than 50 inches of rain is received in this region per year, with most of it in the months between May and September. This, along with the Gulf of Mexico, creates high humidity during this time. Thunderstorms are almost a daily occurrence in the summertime, but they generally do not last long and the sunshine returns. Winter, by comparison, is delightfully much cooler and drier, with perfect conditions for outdoor activities. The hurricane season runs August through October, but direct hits are rare and excellent forecasting gives plenty of warning time for these types of storms.
