Miramar
is a lovely community located in Broward County along the South Florida coast. As of 2004, the town had a population of 101,486 residents. Pembroke Pines borders it to the north, Hollywood to the northeast, Miami-Dade County to the south and West Park to the east. The city’s official motto is “Beauty and Progress,” and the name Miramar is Spanish for “sea view,” or “sea sight.” As part of Broward County, Miramar offers beautiful beaches, world-class golf, exciting family attractions, fine dining and four-star hotels. It’s just minutes to both the Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood and Miami International Airports, making it a perfect town to base a south Florida vacation. You’ll be near all the glamour of Miami Beach and Hollywood, yet in a slower, more low-key environment. Nearby Hallandale Beach is home to Gulfstream Park, which is known internationally for its thoroughbred racetrack. The city of Hollywood, Florida is less than five miles from Miramar and offers trendy shops, clubs, restaurants and art galleries, as well as the famous beachside “Boardwalk” that has been popular with hikers and bicyclists since the early 1920s. Recreational activities available in Miramar include swimming, diving, boating, fishing, hiking, biking, golf and tennis.
Southeast Florida in the region between Miami and Palm Beach, is blessed with a semi-tropical climate, over 3,000 hours of sunshine per year and balmy ocean breezes year-round. The rainy season runs from May through October, with South Florida receiving 70 percent of its annual rainfall during these months. Florida, as a whole, has more thunderstorms than any other state, and their frequency usually peak in July or August. Humidity can become uncomfortable during these months, however storms pass quickly and sunshine returns. Late summer is the hurricane season, but ample warning time is given for these storms. Winters in southeast Florida can only be described as delightful - comfortable temperatures, low humidity, and lots of sunshine and tropical breezes.
