Nokomis
is a small, historic town located between Sarasota and Venice near the Gulf of Mexico. It’s most well known for its beach, which is located a half-mile from town. The Nokomis Beach and Park is comprised of 22 acres with 1,700 feet running alongside the Gulf of Mexico, and 3,200 feet along the Intercoastal Waterway. This area is known for its stunning white sand beaches that are ideal for shelling and beachcombing. All types of other beach activities are available such as swimming, diving, fishing and boating. Nokomis Beach has lifeguards, free parking, concessions, restrooms and picnic tables. It is Sarasota County’s oldest public beach and is located on Casey Key just west of the Albee Road Bridge. The nearby historic town of Venice has lots of shopping and excellent restaurants, and neighboring Sarasota has attractions such as the Sarasota Jungle Gardens and the Ringling Museum of Art. Accommodations in the area include everything from hotels and motels, to vacation rental homes and condominiums. Disney World and Orlando are only a two hour drive away from Nokomis.
South Central Florida, along the Gulf Coast near the south end of Tampa Bay, enjoys warm weather with lots of sunshine year round. During the months of June through September, it is hot and humidity hovers around 50 percent or higher. Although this sounds high, Gulf breezes help to moderate temperatures and virtually every structure in Florida is equipped with air conditioning. The rainy season is from late May through October. You can expect almost daily thunderstorms during this time, but they dissipate quickly and within minutes the sun is shining again. Winters are much drier in comparison with lovely warm daytime temperatures and cool nights. The hurricane season in Florida runs from late August through November, but generally plenty of warning time is given for these types of tropical storms.
