North Fort Myers
is located just northwest of Fort Myers along the banks of the Caloosahatchee River near Charlotte Harbor. It is considered part of the Fort Myers/Cape Coral metro area. With its location at the northern shore of the Caloosahatchee Intracoastal Waterway, North Fort Myers offers the best of both city life and true southern living, that is to say, a “slow and easy” ambiance. The countryside is a mix of gorgeous white sandy beaches and ancient moss-draped oaks, gracious horse farms and tropical rivers. The town of North Fort Myers is a mix of interesting shops and local restaurants, and is home to a several colorful festivals and special events throughout the year. Recreational activities in the area include swimming, fishing, boating, shelling, hiking, horseback riding and camping along the Caloosahatchee River. The Manatee, or Sea Cow, is seen frequently in the waters surrounding North Fort Myers. These giant, endangered animals are one of nature’s shyest and gentlest mammals. The best way to observe them is with a trip aboard one of the area’s tropical river tours. Other exciting adventures include taking a swamp buggy tour, or visiting the “Shell Factory,” which houses the world’s largest collection of shells and coral.
Southwest Florida weather is one of the area's biggest assets. The region surrounding Fort Myers and Captiva/Sanibel Island is balmy in April and May, hot and humid (but bearable) June through September, and mild and sunny the rest of the year. The rainy season is June through September, with lots of showers and thunderstorms. The number of days without rain in the summer averages about 15. Late summer is hurricane season in the Gulf of Mexico. The winter months, when it is drier with less humidity and almost perfect temperatures, is a great time to enjoy southwest Florida's weather. The white sand beaches of the Gulf and the nearby Caloosahatchee River provide visitors and residents plenty of scenic opportunities to enjoy this wonderful weather, also.
