North Miami Beach
is located halfway between the cities of Miami and Ft. Lauderdale. It’s also situated adjacent to the Golden Glades Interchange where I-95, the Florida Turnpike and the Palmetto Expressway meet. The city is called the “Crossroads of South Florida,” and its central location does provide visitors easy access to all the tourist sites in South Florida (most are less than 30 minutes away.) It’s also made North Miami Beach one of the region’s most popular shopping areas. North Miami Beach seems to have it all – a perfect climate, dozens of parks, beautiful beaches and bays, fine cultural and dining opportunities and a wide variety of outdoor recreational opportunities. Haulover Park in North Miami Beach is a well-known “clothing optional beach.” Another attraction in the city is an authentic Medieval Spanish monastery. Built in Sacramenia, Segovia, Spain in the 12 century, the Monastery of St. Bernard de Clairvaux was purchased by William Randolph Hearst in the 1920s and dismantled and shipped to the U.S. It was reassembled in North Miami Beach after Hearst’s death in the 1950s and became a tourist attraction and a popular spot for weddings.
South Florida, in the Miami Beach, Key Biscayne, Coral Gables area, has the only sub tropic climate in the United States, other than Hawaii. This region is exposed to daytime onshore breezes and enjoys comfortable temperatures during most of the year. Although the temperature is relatively moderate, the combination of the temperature and high humidity can be uncomfortable from May through September. However, cooling ocean breezes help to modify the climate. In fact, it actually has fewer very hot days each summer than does the northern part of the state. In wintertime, it is one of the warmest places in the U.S. mainland, with sunny days and balmy nights. Most rain falls in summer, with frequent but brief, heavy thunderstorms. Hurricane season is generally August through October, with most occurring in September.
