Orange Springs is a small town located in the Central Highlands Region of Florida. This area is comprised of beautiful, gently rolling hills and an abundance of pastureland with a wonderfully mild climate. This atmosphere is very suitable for horse ranching, and thus, the Orange Springs area has become renowned for its horse farms and horse training. Several horses from Marion County have competed in the Kentucky Derby. Orange Springs sits in the midst of the Ocala National Forest, which is a hikers paradise. The Alexander Springs Recreation Area in the forest features a self-guided interpretative hike through subtropical vegetation and plants used by early Native Americans. Salt Springs Trail meanders through two miles of forest, ending at a series of wildlife observation platforms with spectacular views. The most scenic trail is the Florida National Scenic Trail that is sixty-five miles long and runs north to south through the Ocala Forest. This trail can be accessed at various points at or near several campgrounds in the area. Other activities in the Orange Springs area include biking, camping, horseback riding, fishing, boating and canoeing. One canoe trail can be found at Juniper Springs and is seven miles long, is quite narrow and is an exciting subtropical experience. Orange Springs is near the Clearwater Lake Recreation Area and also just a short drive north of Orlando.

Orange Springs Weather & Climate

The Northeast Coast of Florida, in the Jacksonville/Atlantic Beach/St. Augustine region, enjoys year round warm temperatures. Basically, there are three seasons, Spring, Summer and Fall. Classified as a semi-tropical climate with hot and humid summers, the northeast coast receives lots of showers and thunderstorms in the summer, and cooling ocean breezes helps moderate temperatures. Thunderstorms are usually localized and short, and therefore do not interfere with outdoor plans too much. In winter, prevailing winds from the north keeps it a few degrees cooler than southern Florida. The rainy season runs May through October, with September generally being the wettest month. Winters are sunny, dry and mild with cool evenings. On average there are 24 days of each month in winter that are dry.
