Oxford is located in Sumter County in north central Florida, near The Villages retirement complex. Called “one of the last frontiers of Florida,” Oxford, in Sumter County, offers an abundance of outdoor recreational activities. Lake Panasoffkee is well known for its excellent fishing and more than a dozen golf courses are within the Oxford region. Sumter County is home to the world-famous Webster’s Farmers Market, which attracts people from all over the country. Held every Monday, Webster’s or the Sumter County Farmers Market & Flea Market is located on Highway 471 in downtown Webster. One of the largest farmer’s markets in the country, it covers over 40 acres, contains 2,000 stalls and accommodates over 1,200 dealers. Other attractions in the Oxford area includes the Dade Battlefield State Park, the Withlacoochee River and State Trail, which consists of a 46-mile paved stretch of railroad right-of-way that has been converted to hiking, biking and horseback riding trails. Oxford is also near the Great Florida Birding Trail, a collection of sites throughout Florida that have been selected for their excellent birdwatching and bird education opportunities. Sumter County is part of this 2,000-mile trail designed to conserve and enhance Florida’s bird habitat.

Oxford Weather & Climate

The lush, green horse country of north central Florida, near Ocala and Lady Lake, lies between Gainesville and Orlando. It is warm and humid in the summertime with plenty of sunshine along with frequent thunderstorms that generally pass very quickly. Winters are warm, dry days with cool nights - perfect for a round of golf, horseback riding and other outdoor sports. Northern Florida receives an average of 50 inches of rainfall per year, with most of it during the months of May through September. There is much less rain overall in the wintertime, although continental low-pressure systems can bring longer periods of cloudiness to the area. North winds in the winter keep this area slightly cooler than southern Florida, but summers are slightly warmer without the cooling effect from the ocean, as do cities that are located right along the coast.
