Panama City
is located east of Pensacola between Apalachicola and Fort Walton Beach near the Gulf of Mexico. It’s an area known for its abundant natural beauty and white sand beaches, popular tourist attractions, a city rich in culture and the arts, and a pleasant, small town atmosphere. The city maintains 37 parks that offer swimming, fishing and boating, nature trails for hiking and biking, picnicking, golf and tennis. St. Andrews Bay surrounds much of Panama City, providing it with a natural, protected harbor. Several charter boats are available from the harbor for deep-sea fishing. In addition, Panama City has a newly renovated marina located on the Intracoastal Waterway, just one block from downtown. It features 240 slips designed for all classes of vessels, and is open seven days per week and has a fully stocked marina store, showers and laundry facilities. Panama City has lots of shopping, art galleries, restaurants and outdoor cafes and coffee shops. Weekday bus service is available to the Panama City Mall and all other major shopping centers in the town. Nearby St. Andrews State Park has over 1,200 acres of beaches, sand dunes, nature trails, pinewoods and marshes to explore. The family-fun beach destination of Panama City Beach is just minutes away and offers beachside amusement parks with arcades, miniature golf, gift shops, sidewalk cafes and restaurants.
The Emerald Coast of Northwest Florida's Panhandle region enjoys warm temperatures all year long, although it is slightly cooler in the wintertime than southern Florida, due to its latitude and prevailing northerly winds. The Panhandle region also receives the most rainfall in the state - more than 50 inches annually. However, most of these storms, especially in the summertime, pass quickly and sunshine quickly returns. Hot and humid conditions can be expected throughout most of the summer months, May through September, although the area does receive lovely tropical breezes off the Gulf. Hurricane season generally runs late August through October, but direct hits along the Gulf Coast are not frequent.
