Port St Joe
is located on the north Gulf Coast of Florida between Panama City and Apalachicola. This historic community was one of the very first towns established on the Gulf Coast, and it has retained its laid-back ambience reminiscent of “old Florida” - before the addition of theme parks and high rise developments. Port St. Joe is well known for its fishing and has a state-of-the-art marina, covered slips, and boat rentals, tour boat guides and fishing tournaments galore. Visitors enjoy offshore, freshwater or bay fishing for speckled trout, redfish and tarpon. Eco-tours are available, as are sunset cruises, charters for snorkeling and diving with the dolphins, and pontoon rentals. Nearby St. Joseph’s State Park Beach has been rated the #1 beach in the country for three years in a row, and offers plenty of opportunities for swimming, relaxing on soft, white sands, surfing, shelling, jet skiing, water skiing and more. When you’re hungry, sample fresh seafood at Port. St. Joe’s dockside café, or at one of the other romantic get-a-ways in town. Historic downtown Port St. Joe has unique shops to explore, as do many of the other quaint seacoast towns along Florida’s northwest panhandle.
Florida's Northwest Panhandle between Tallahassee and Panama City is somewhat cooler than the rest of the state due to its latitude and proximity to the Gulf of Mexico. There are a significant number of days November - March when the combination of sea breezes and prevailing winds from the north force cold air into the area. The Panhandle also receives the most rain of any region in the state. In summertime, abundant sunshine and the Gulf, along with 58 inches of rainfall per year, contributes to a hot and humid climate. The chance of showers and thunderstorms can be expected anytime of the year, although the rainy season generally runs May - September, with August and September being the wettest months. Hurricane season officially lasts from August through late October, but ample warning is given for these types of storms.
