Summerfield is largely a retirement community located just outside the city of Ocala in Central Florida. Mild weather year round, scenic beauty, great shopping and restaurants, low crime rate and good quality medical facilities are the main attractions that has made Summerfield a very popular place for retirement. These are also the same qualities that add to its appeal as a vacation destination. The nearby town of Ocala has been named one of America’s five “Best Places to Live” by Money Magazine, and the whole area is surrounded by spectacular horse farms, rolling green hills, 200-year old oak trees, fresh lakes and championship golf courses. The nearby Ocala National Forest has a total of 600 lakes inside the forest, 23 spring-fed streams and two major rivers. All of this adds up to lots of outdoor recreational fun, including swimming, canoeing, horseback riding, woodland hikes, picnicking and camping. Just outside of Summerfield is Silver Springs, a 350-acre natural theme park with the world’s largest collection of natural springs. The park is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and features wild animal displays, glass bottom boat rides, and a jungle cruise and jeep safari. There is also a Silver Springs Water Park with water slides, a wave pool and other fun activities for the family.

Summerfield Weather & Climate

The lush, green horse country of north central Florida, near Ocala and Lady Lake, lies between Gainesville and Orlando. It is warm and humid in the summertime with plenty of sunshine along with frequent thunderstorms that generally pass very quickly. Winters are warm, dry days with cool nights - perfect for a round of golf, horseback riding and other outdoor sports. Northern Florida receives an average of 50 inches of rainfall per year, with most of it during the months of May through September. There is much less rain overall in the wintertime, although continental low-pressure systems can bring longer periods of cloudiness to the area. North winds in the winter keep this area slightly cooler than southern Florida, but summers are slightly warmer without the cooling effect from the ocean, as do cities that are located right along the coast.
