Tallahassee Vacation Rentals, Homes, Condos, Villas and Beach Rentals

Tallahassee was selected Florida’s state capital in 1823 because it was halfway between St. Augustine and Pensacola – the state’s major cities at the time. This location is almost in Georgia and the Old South ambience still prevails in the city today. You will find lovely restored 19th century homes and buildings, including the 1845 Capitol. Towering pines and sprawling oaks form a virtual tunnel along Tallahassee’s five official “Canopy Roads,” which are lined with historic plantations, ancient Native-American settlements and mounds, quiet parks and gardens and picnic areas. Museums, art galleries and historic sights abound in the city, and there are free trolley rides in the downtown area, as well as walking tours. The whole city is a lovely place for walking. There are also plenty of other family recreation spots and outdoor activities, including golf, canoeing, swimming and biking. Great beaches are within an hour’s drive. The nearby town of Havana is Florida’s antiquing capital, and there are two culinary delights not to be missed in Tallahassee – famous Apalachicola oysters and Panacea blue crabs. Tallahassee – like a lot of southern cities – seems to run at a slower speed – and that can be very good for the blood pressure

Tallahassee Weather & Climate

The Panhandle Region known as the "Big Bend" is near the Georgia State line to the north and the Gulf of Mexico to the south. This region enjoys a somewhat cooler climate in the wintertime than the southern part of the state, due to its latitude and cold winds from the north. However, daytime temperatures in winter are still generally warm enough for outdoor activities, with chilly nights. Summers are hot and humid, due to its' proximity to the Gulf and frequent thundershowers. The Panhandle region receives the most rain of any area in the state of Florida, with nearly 60 inches per year. June through September are the wettest months. Hurricane season officially lasts from August through late October, but ample warning is given for these types of storms.
