Welaka is a small village located in Putnam County near the St. Johns River in Central Florida. Fishing has been the big draw for this area for years. Located in the middle of Florida’s Big Bass waters, Putnam County has been nicknamed “The Bass Capital of the World.” Black Bass, also known as Largemouth Bass is one of the most popular fish in this area. There are fishing guide services in Welaka, and many fishing tournaments are held in the region each year. The St. Johns River, Crescent Lake and Lake Ocklawaha not only provide some of the best fishing in the state, but also opportunities for pontoon boating, canoeing, sailing, swimming and hiking. Welaka Weather & Climate

The Northeast Coast of Florida, in the Jacksonville/Atlantic Beach/St. Augustine region, enjoys year round warm temperatures. Basically, there are three seasons, Spring, Summer and Fall. Classified as a semi-tropical climate with hot and humid summers, the northeast coast receives lots of showers and thunderstorms in the summer, and cooling ocean breezes helps moderate temperatures. Thunderstorms are usually localized and short, and therefore do not interfere with outdoor plans too much. In winter, prevailing winds from the north keeps it a few degrees cooler than southern Florida. The rainy season runs May through October, with September generally being the wettest month. Winters are sunny, dry and mild with cool evenings. On average there are 24 days of each month in winter that are dry.
