Isles of Capri
is about 2 miles north of Marco Island’s bridge on State Road 951. Developer Leland L. Loach created the hideaway in the mid-1950s after he purchased the four mangrove islands. Loach dredged canals and built a road that connected the island to the mainland. Today, the Isles of Capri have retained their natural beauty, and residents live along quiet streets in modest homes. Nearby Marco Island is the largest of “Florida’s Ten Thousand Islands,” and is located approximately twenty miles south of Naples on the Gulf of Mexico. This area, with its lush tropical foliage, white sand beaches and turquoise Gulf waters provides endless opportunities for outdoor recreational fun. Spend hours in the sun relaxing and sunbathing, or go fishing, swimming, canoeing and kayaking, snorkeling, windsurfing, play golf or tennis. The Briggs Nature Center on Marco Island has live animal exhibits, a touch table, and trails through mangrove, hammock and marsh forests. You can charter a boat for a day of deep-sea fishing, take a swamp buggy tour, dolphin watching tour or sightseeing tour of the islands. The Isles of Capri is just a short drive to Big Cypress National Preserve and Everglades City, home to the Everglades City Museum and the Everglades National Park Gulf Coast Visitor Center.

Southwest Florida, along the Gulf Coast between Fort Myers and The Everglades, is also known as "The Paradise Coast." It has a subtropical climate that brings warm temperatures year round, balmy tropical breezes, sunny skies and occasional thunderstorms. Also known as a "Mediterranean-type" climate, the Southwest Gulf Coast region has long, languid summers and mild dry winters. Most rain occurs between the months of June through September, and showers and thunderstorms are generally brief, though sometimes heavy. More often than not, the sun is shining again within minutes. Winters are nothing short of delightful, with near perfect daytime temperatures and cool evenings. Hurricane season in Florida generally runs late August through November.
